Beginners Classes

Jan 23 - I am unable to offer any Beginner Classes for the foreseeable future

These classes are designed for those with no or very little previous experience of Pilates and those who haven't practised for a long time.

These classes are not drop-in classes. Clients must book before joining.

The course will run for 2 terms (generally 6 weeks per term.) The terms run roughly in line with the South Gloucestershire term times.

The course will teach clients the fundamental principles of Pilates together with a basic knowledge base of exercises in a thorough and progressive manner. By the end of the course, client's will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of core stability and be able to challenge this understanding by adding 'load' in the form of extended arms and legs etc whilst maintaining control. It is essential to have a thorough grasp of the basics before moving on to more challenging exercises.

Upon the completion of the initial beginners course, clients will then integrate into

the regular classes, from where they will continue to develop their knowledge and understanding.

Unless daytime beginners classes are being run, all other beginners classes are usually held on a Friday evening until the 2nd term course is completed.

Venues will be as advertised at the time.

All classes are limited to a maximum of 12 people so clients can receive individual attention, correction and support.

All clients are required to complete an enrolment form/health questionnaire to ensure that there are no reasons why they shouldn't exercise in a group setting. Some medical/health conditions mean that exercises have to be modified to such a degree that private sessions will only be available. Clients wishing to join a group setting will be advised if private sessions are considered more suitable.

Each course is designed to provide progression through the exercises and therefore payment is required in advance of the course commencing.

Clients are actively encouraged to exercise within the limitations of their own body, considering existing medical or health conditions and not to feel pressured to keep up with other class members.

Exercises will always start at a basic level and, where possible, variations are offered to make them more challenging, physically and/or mentally, for those who wish, or are capable of following them.

The emphasis is always on quality rather than quantity, I would rather have a client complete 3 or 4 repititions with precise control in key areas instead of trying to keep up with the class and maybe completing 6 or 8 repititions but with poor control in those key areas.

Testimonials

"I started in one of Sally's beginners classes having been advised by my physiotherapist to do Pilates, at the time I was recovering from Open heart surgery and post operative neck and shoulder pain.

I was immediately impressed by Sally insisting on talking to my physio before accepting me in her class. I am pleased to say I now attend one of her regular classes and never once has she forgotten that I might have difficulty with some of the movements, and will always offer an alternative way of doing the exercise.

Her classes are relaxed and friendly with all different levels of ability I always leave the class knowing that I have had a good workout and feel much better for it."

                                                                                   Sue - Thornbury

"Sally always assumes 'no previous knowledge' or 'old knowledge' with the beginners class. I can thoroughly recommend her sessions. She gets to know her learners well and supports each person on a very individual basis enabling them to develop at their own pace whilst ensuring steady safe and solid progress. With small class sizes and a regular group of people, you will soon become proficient and you will certainly enjoy Sally's meticulous approach!"
